The COVID-19 pandemic has caused, and in some cases exacerbated, a myriad of challenges for our students, including meeting their basic needs for food, housing, and childcare. Some higher education professionals have worked to meet these challenges by creating and administering student emergency funds. But, like any new initiative, taking a good idea all the way through to become a new program is never easy. Sustaining the program is a challenge all its own. In this webinar, you will hear from higher education professionals who instituted emergency fund programs at a university and a community college. Colleagues will describe the opportunities and obstacles encountered as they created a new student emergency fund program and will discuss how to navigate the often elusive “advancement” or fundraising side of getting a new initiative off the ground. Finally, this webinar will explain how private fundraising can be helpful in supporting behavioral intervention teams and work.
