Working with Students on the Autism Spectrum

Students on the Autism Spectrum experience educational settings with a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Autism Spectrum Disorder affects communication and behavior, often resulting in difficulty interacting with others. For some individuals with ASD, their social interactions with peers, faculty, or staff may often lead to a BIT or conduct referral. In this webinar, faculty will provide an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as explore strategies for providing support and successful interventions to this group of students. Faculty will also discuss how administrators can deploy BIT interventions, respond to concerning behavior, and hold students accountable through the student conduct process, including navigating any protections for students based upon a disability.

What participants will do in the training:

  • Gain an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Learn strategies for providing support and interventions for students on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Explore the intersection of BIT and student conduct, particularly for students whose behavior is impacted by a disability.

Who Should Attend?

  • BIT Administrators
  • Deans/Assistant Deans of Students
  • Case Managers
  • Student Affairs Professionals
  • Residence Life Staff
