Presented on Tuesday, October 13th
Brian Van Brunt, Ed.D., Scott Lewis, J.D., Tammy Hodo, Ph.D., and Jacques Whitfield, J.D.

Description

Based on the turn out for our first Hard Conversations program, NaBITA is bringing back our panel to touch on the various issues facing our country and campuses. Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and the protests occurring across the country, it is likely there are concerns over the uncertainty of the outcome, the online voting process, and the reaction of those who do have their candidate win. Specifically, we will address:

  • How to start these hard conversations with students
  • Predication and talking points for a Trump win
  • Predictions and talking points for a Biden win
  • Predication and talking points for a slow result calculation
  • Predication and talking points for a delay or Trump unwilling to accept

Participants will:

  • Explore the pending challenges with the upcoming 2020 election
  • Review common ways to engage students in difficult conversations
  • Discuss the importance of planning to address these issues through civil communication
  • Develop an increased awareness of extremist violence through a review of the ERIS threat assessment tool
