As narrative content increasingly appears across digital and written platforms, teams need effective ways to assess potential risk. NABITA has evolved its Violence Risk Assessment of the Written Word (VRAWW) into the Screening Tool for Risk Assessment of Narrative Data (STRAND).
STRAND is a research-informed tool designed to objectively assess the risk of violence in narratives such as social media posts, class writing, journals, blogs, and video content. Used alongside NABITA’s Risk Rubric, STRAND examines escalating and mitigating factors to categorize risk and align interventions appropriately.
This session will explore what’s changed, why the transition from VRAWW to STRAND matters, and how teams can apply this updated tool to strengthen their narrative risk assessment process.
