20 Minutes to…Trained: Mandated Assessment

This 20-Minutes to… Trained session explores the mandated assessment process and the role of violence risk assessments (VRAs) within Behavioral Intervention Teams. NABITA experts examine when and how institutions can require participation in a VRA, the differences between risk assessments, psychological assessments, and threat assessments, and the legal and procedural considerations that support a fair and defensible process. Participants will learn strategies for encouraging compliance, selecting qualified Assessors, collaborating across campus partners, and appropriately using assessment findings to inform intervention planning, case management, and campus safety efforts.
